CREW PROFILES
Captain: Chas Ashby Nationality: England
Number of Crew: 8
Crew Profiles:
CHAS ASHBY - CAPTAIN

“Chas loves to interact with guests”
Often mimicked, but never successfully by folk such as Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and other such insignificants, Chas has been with Cuan Law for 4 years or so covering just about every position with the exception of cook during that time. Having spent 16 years working on the African continent in the Safari, Expedition and location arena the more relaxed pace of coastal East Africa and hotel marketing plus the lure of some decent scuba diving drew Chas to the warm Indian Ocean. White sandy beaches, palm trees became the norm so a natural progression from there was the Caribbean. Starting with a shore based company on Tortola before pestering his way into a position on Cuan Law, Chas has clawed his way to the skippers position over the last 4 years. It was either that or fire him! Chas is a fully qualified yachtmaster, dive instructor, hotel manager, engineer, raconteur and humorist. He comes from England but is quite understandable, even to the crew!

ED NAUDE - FIRST MATE AND ENGINEER
Ed is a 35 year old happy go lucky bachelor, who stems from the Traanskei, South Africa. Whilst building the interior of a 40 foot yacht in 1996, he went sailing for the first time and has not looked back. Ed arrived in the BVI in 2001 and worked shore base for a charter company before joining the Cuan Law in October 2002. Ed joined as Engineer which is a vital job on the Cuan Law as she has so much machinery. He was also given the position of First mate when it be clear that he is an exceptional sailor. Ed is a huge man of enormous strength, and quiet, until one digs down to find a sparkling sense of fun.
DANIEL WEDDICK - CHEF
Daniel is a 32 year old native of Portland, Oregon in the USA, and had been in and around water for most of his life. He learned to cook at an early age from his mom who is Japanese, so there are many Asian influences in the meals that he likes to create. After graduating from University he became a scuba instructor and began to travel. Since then has worked on boats and in restaurants around the world including Hawaii, New Zealand and on few islands in the Caribbean.

Daniel’s food is superb, plentiful, varied and beautifully presented. If you have allergies of dietary problems, he will prepare special dishes for you. Check out his sample menu which, although constantly changing, will give you an idea that this is no Slim Down Camp!

ABI HILLMAN - DIVER
Abi was born in Cyprus and has been a water baby from an early age. She took up Scuba Diving in 1991, in the cold waters of the UK. After 5 years of diving in the UK, she finally discovered warm water when she went on holiday to the Red Sea. In 1998 she packed her bags and set off to discover the world, starting in Australia where she became an instructor. Since then she has been using her job to travel the world, working in Cyprus, and the United Arab Emirates on the way.

She joined Cuan Law early in 2004 and shown that she has great patience and takes great care of beginners and low time divers. However her experience of hard diving in the UK allows her to competently guide advanced dives, which she loves.

AJAY PAGE - DIVER
Ajay spent the first 5 years of his life in a small town in Australia before he and his family moved to the island nations of the South Pacific Ocean. There he called two nations home, The Kingdom of Tonga and Vanuatu. There he learnt to dive at the age of 12 and has been diving ever since. He spent 6 years at boarding school in Sydney and from there tried his hand at Engineering, E-Commerce and Computer Animation before giving in to the temptations of life aboard the Cuan Law as dive instructor. He hopes to captain large commercial vessels in the near future.

Ajay's sunny personality and Down Under sense of humor make him a great favorite of both guests and crew.

ASHLEY COGSWELL - STEWARDESS
Ashley spent most of her life in a small town on the west coast of Canada called Chilliwack. She moved around Canada until high school when she left home, moved to an undisclosed location, and joined the CIA Secret Service Department. Twelve hours and five assassination attempts later, she decided the Secret Service was perhaps a little more danger than she was looking for, so she joined the Cuan Law. These days she enjoys sailing and diving, and, if you’re lucky, you might just catch her practicing her karate moves from back in her CIA days. She is also working on an autobiography, due out next year and available at a bookstore near you. No doubt, eh!

DAN DAYNESWOOD - STEWARD
Dan hails from England originally but at the age of 8 moved with his family to British Columbia, Canada and since then has never lost the travel bug. After running out of money backpacking around Europe he decided that it would be better to try and earn money as he traveled. He became a Scuba Diving instructor in 2002 and was soon working on cruise ships. Looking to gain more sailing experience Dan moved from the cruise ships to the Cuan Law. There he can be found hoisting sails, filling tanks, severing his own fingers and always in the mood for a practical joke, keeping the other crew on their toes!

KIM HUISH - STANDBY CHEF
Kim has been associated with Trimarine since the days that Lammer Law was in the BVI. She is a full time Tortola resident who works with us in the office as well as aboard Cuan Law during the chef's time off. Kim is another diver who after so many years has some favorite sites that she loves to share with the guests. Her life ashore is quite busy so welcoming and catering for 20 guests is often a nice change of pace, if not exactly relaxing! Having chosen the BVI as home, it is obvious how much she loves the place, She also has some famous pirate stories to try and coax our visitors to stay here & treasure hunt instead of returning home! Kim is an excellent chef who is renowned for her fresh baked bread. As if her life isn't busy enough she now runs our villa "Serendipity House".
